Description

The Gabion Revetment is a flat mat-shaped engineering component composed of a machine-woven double-twisted hexagonal metal mesh. It is mainly used for anti-scouring slope protection in areas such as water conservancy embankments, bank slopes, and roadbed slopes.

Functions of Gabion Revetment

Hydraulic Erosion Resistance and Flexible Stability

The composite protective layer formed after infilling withstands flow velocities of up to 5 m/s, effectively inhibiting bank scour. Its flexible structure adapts to differential foundation settlement of ±5% without requiring expansion joints, offering superior seismic resistance and crack prevention compared to traditional rigid slope protection.

Open Porosity and Permeable Filtration

The structure features a natural porosity of approximately 30%, facilitating natural exchange between the water body and the slope soil, which supports microbial colonization and micro-ecosystem activity. High permeability allows for the rapid drainage of pore water, effectively eliminating hydrostatic pressure behind the revetment and maintaining the slope's structural equilibrium.

Ecological Greening and Shoreline Restoration

The voids within the mesh matting readily capture natural silt or applied soil, typically allowing surface vegetation to establish within 3 to 6 months. By introducing native shrubs and grasses-and leveraging the interlocking anchorage between plant roots and the mesh-stone structure-the design seamlessly integrates structural protection with the natural landscape.

Anti-Corrosion Processes

Hot-Dip Galvanizing

Steel wire is immersed in a molten zinc bath at 450±10°C, forming a zinc-iron alloy layer topped with a pure zinc layer. Standard zinc coating weight is ≥245g/m², with options to increase this to over 300g/m². It protects the steel core via the sacrificial anode principle; suitable for inland freshwater and general soil environments, with a service life of 20–30 years.

Galfan

The coating consists of a zinc-5% aluminum-mischmetal alloy, offering 3–5 times the corrosion resistance of standard galvanizing. The coating is thinner yet offers superior adhesion and features self-healing properties at cut edges; suitable for coastal areas, saline-alkali soils, and regions prone to acid rain, with a service life of 40–60 years.

PVC/PE Coating

A plastic sheath (0.4–1.2mm thick) is extruded over hot-dip galvanized or Galfan-coated steel wire; common colors include green, gray, and black. This provides a physical barrier against corrosive agents and offers resistance to UV radiation and mechanical abrasion; suitable for highly corrosive environments or landscaping projects, with a service life exceeding 50 years.

Application Scenarios

1. Primarily used for river channels, bank slopes, and roadbed slope protection structures.

2. Suitable for relatively gentle slopes where erosion is not severe.

3. In addition to gentle slopes in rivers and canals, it can also be used for steep slope protection, but requires the insertion of hardwood wedges in the base layer to ensure stability.

Technical Support

For Gabion Revetment projects, our technical support focuses on critical application stages, offering the following practical services:

Solution Selection Support

We recommend appropriate mesh sizes, unit thicknesses (0.23–0.30m), and anti-corrosion grades based on client-provided data regarding flow velocity, bank slope, and soil conditions. Preliminary stability calculations can also be provided.

Construction Drawing Assistance

We provide CAD-format revetment layout drawings, indicating anchoring points, overlap lengths, and connection details with upstream and downstream structures. For large-scale projects, we can assist in drafting detailed construction node drawings.

Remote Installation Guidance

Bilingual (Chinese/English) installation manuals and videos demonstrating standard procedures are included; remote video guidance is provided, covering key technical briefings such as substrate preparation, mesh assembly, stone filling, and anchoring.

On-site Fault Repair

During the warranty period, we respond to slope irregularities within 24 hours and submit a repair plan (e.g., localized stone replenishment or mesh repair); replacement mesh panels and binding wire are provided free of charge (shipping costs are borne by the customer as agreed).

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between Gabion Revetment and standard gabion baskets?

A: The difference lies in thickness. Gabion Revetment has a thickness of ≤0.3m and is used for slope protection, whereas standard gabion baskets have a thickness of ≥0.5m and are used for retaining walls. Both share the same materials and weaving process.

Q: Does Gabion Revetment require drainage holes?

A: No. It is inherently permeable; water drains naturally through the gaps between the stones, preventing the buildup of hydrostatic pressure.

Q: What is the warranty period? Is third-party inspection supported?

A: We offer a ten-year warranty, with free replacement in the event of material or workmanship defects. We support on-site inspections by third parties such as SGS or BV, with the associated costs covered by us.
