Green sand mattresses are structures commonly used in slope protection, river management, and other engineering projects. They are made of high-strength steel wire woven together and filled with materials such as stones, possessing good flexibility, permeability, and stability. The following details the construction methods and precautions for green sand mattresses.

 

Construction Preparation

Preparation before construction is crucial, as it forms the foundation for successful green sand mattress installation.

- Site Clearing: The construction site must be thoroughly cleared, removing weeds, debris, garbage, and obstacles to ensure a clean and level area. This step facilitates subsequent construction operations and prevents debris from affecting the laying and securing of the green sand mattress.

- Material Inspection: Carefully inspect the green sand mattress and filling materials. The steel wire material of the green sand mattress should meet design requirements, and its weaving process should be uniform, strong, and free of defects such as broken wires or damage. Stones are typically used as the filling material, and the particle size of the stones must meet design standards, generally within a certain range, to ensure stability and integrity after filling. At the same time, check the stones for cracks, weathering, and other quality problems.

- Surveying and Setting Out: Based on the design drawings, use surveying instruments such as total stations and levels to conduct precise surveying and setting out. Determine the laying location, boundaries, and elevation control points of the green sand mat, and set up clear control stakes and leveling points to provide accurate benchmarks for subsequent construction.

 

Foundation Treatment

Proper foundation treatment provides stable support for the green sand mat, ensuring its long-term functionality.

- Leveling and Compaction: Level the foundation surface where the green sand mat will be laid to achieve the required flatness. For soft foundations, compaction and reinforcement are necessary to improve the foundation's load-bearing capacity. The degree of compaction must meet relevant specifications, and the quality of compaction can be checked using methods such as the ring cutter method and sand cone method.
