Narrow gabion baskets, also known as gabion mesh, stone cage mesh, wire gabion, etc., is a box-type structure composed of machine-woven hexagonal double-twisted metal mesh. Filling materials (usually stones, pebbles or gravel) are placed in metal mesh boxes and twisted together through cover plates to form a flexible protective structure with strong integrity, good water permeability, and perfect integration with the natural environment.

Product Advantages
High Space Utilization
With a width of only 0.3-0.5m, it can be installed in confined locations such as wall bases and drainage ditch edges. The self-weight after filling is approximately 0.5-1.0 tons/meter, providing sufficient anti-slip force.
Flexible Construction
When unloaded, a single gabion cage weighs ≤50kg, requiring only two people to move; no crane or heavy machinery is needed, making it suitable for narrow construction surfaces, and installation is more than 3 times faster than concrete pouring.
Replaces Concrete Formwork
Factory prefabricated, directly filled on-site, eliminating the need for formwork, rebar tying, and curing, shortening the construction period by more than 60% and reducing overall costs by 30%.
In conjunction with conventional gabion cages
Can be used as foot protection or capping for conventional gabion cages, forming a complete protective system and improving overall stability by approximately 20%.
Structural Components
A complete narrow gabion basket system typically consists of:
1. Mesh: A hexagonal double-twisted mesh woven from metal wire. This double-twisted structure ensures that even if one or two wires break, the overall structure will not fall apart, providing high safety and stability.
2. Filler: The stone used for internal filling. The stone must be hard, resistant to weathering and hydrolysis, and generally larger than the mesh size.
3. Partitions: Within a longer gabion basket, partitions are installed at regular intervals to enhance structural integrity and prevent bulging in the center after filling with stone.
4. Binding Wire: Used to assemble the individual mesh panels into the basket and secure the cover to the basket.
Applications
Drainage Ditch Foot Protection: Placed close to the ditch wall to prevent collapse.
Bridge Abutment and Riverbank Junction: Fills narrow gaps to prevent erosion by water flow.
Pipe or Cable Protection: Laid along the pipeline route, covered with gravel to prevent external damage.
Landscape Step Edges: Serves as step retaining strips, filled with colored pebbles, combining function and decoration.
Narrow Gabions and Rock Crevices Filling: Used to fill narrow gaps and lock loose rocks when controlling rockfalls or shallow landslides.
Quality Control
Raw Material Inspection
Each batch of steel wire undergoes spectral analysis and coating thickness measurement upon arrival at the factory. Batches with zinc coatings below 245g/㎡ are returned.
In-Process Sampling Inspection
Width and edge wire diameter are randomly sampled every 2 hours on the weaving or welding line. Machines are stopped and adjusted if deviations are found.
Finished Product Deformation Resistance Test
Narrow cages are randomly selected from each batch for simulated filling. Width expansion rate is measured to be ≤2% to prevent bulging on-site.
Factory Packaging Protection
Long cages are secured with wooden frames or special pallets, bundled with steel straps, and subjected to drop tests to ensure no deformation during transport.

FAQ
Q: What are the main differences between Narrow Gabion Baskets and regular gabion boxes?
A: Significantly narrower width, suitable for confined spaces; thicker edge wires and denser partitions prevent twisting of slender boxes.
Q: Can they be used at the beach?
A: Available in Galfan or 316L stainless steel, these baskets offer stability in the width direction and are less prone to tipping over due to waves.
Q: Are Narrow Gabion Baskets easily deformed during transport? How can this be prevented through packaging?
A: Narrow Gabion Baskets have a large length-to-width ratio, which may cause them to twist during transport. We use internal wooden strips or a steel frame for temporary reinforcement, and when stacking multiple baskets, corrugated cardboard is placed between them, and they are secured with steel straps in a cross shape.
