Wire gabion baskets are typically made from corrosion-resistant, high-strength, and ductile low-carbon steel wire. To enhance corrosion resistance, the wire is often treated with zinc plating, PVC/PE coating, or galvanizing (a zinc-aluminum alloy). For example, galvanized steel wire can have a zinc coating of up to 300g/m². Galvanized steel wire is also more resistant to cracking and shedding, significantly extending its service life.
Structural Features
1. Flexible Structure: Wire gabions are constructed from hexagonal meshes woven from metal wire, creating a flexible structure that can withstand a wide range of deformation. When subjected to external forces, this structure can absorb energy through its own deformation, preventing collapse.
2. High Water Permeability: The gaps between the gabions allow for free exchange of water and soil, preventing damage caused by hydrostatic forces and maintaining beach stability. Furthermore, water permeability promotes plant growth and enhances ecological self-purification.
3. High Integrity: Once assembled into units through lashing, the gabions form a tightly connected, integrated protective system. Even partial damage will not affect the stability of the overall structure.

1. Water Conservancy Projects: Used in river regulation, embankment protection, and river management. Wire gabions effectively resist erosion and wind and wave damage, protecting riverbanks and embankments.
2. Ecological Slope Protection: On bank slopes and roadside slopes, wire gabions are filled with rocks and soil to create a green, ecological revetment. Vegetation naturally grows between the cages, beautifying the environment and reducing soil erosion.
3. Road Protection: Along roadsides or on steep slopes, wire gabions can serve as retaining walls or slope protection structures to prevent landslides and collapses.
